De kwade magiër Damodar heeft, na een lange zoektocht, de kwaadaardige zwarte orb met daarin de krachten van de Drakengod Falasuur in zijn bezit gekregen. Met de kracht van de bol kan hij zijn wraak op het koninkrijk van Ismir beginnen. Berek, de alom geroemde legercommandant, kiest een groep van vier mensen om de orb te stelen van Damodar. De krachtige zwaardvechtster Lux, de tovenares Omarline, de priester Dorian en de dief Nim. Samen vechten zij tegen de steeds machtiger wordende Damodar en zijn leger van vreselijke creaturen. Ondertussen in Ismir, werkt de vrouw van Berek, Melora, samen met de andere magiers, aan een manier om de kwaadaardige orb te vernietigen terwijl zij lijdt onder een steeds erger wordende vloek opgelegd door Damodar, die haar van binnenuit opeet.
